Sorry, i could resist.
You need to understand that, Britney and myself go way back - back to
before she met that -bleep- of a husband. I have left the answer to one
of Friendster's questions of 'who would i like to meet?' the way i have
on purpose. Have you ever wondered what it would actually be like to
know a 'celebrity'? Like, to get to know one. I do...

Anyway, crossroads. I have aptly titled this entry so, to announce i am moving cyber-space. You will now find me here. It is still under-construction, as most of us are. One of the main
reasons? Well, before that...you should also know this about me: when
considering a new mobile phone, one of the first things i ask about -
whether it has the 'vibration' function. Forget bluetooth, forget a 1.3
mp camera insitu, i need to know when a call or sms arrives. Heh.

The same with the new blog...one of the things i
find i would love
to have...an archive function. Simple as that. I know xanga does it via
click-on-a-specific-date-month, but...yea, crossroads. And oh...get
ready your
latin dictionaries.
Wednesday, November 02, 2005

And oh, for those who recall that i am an Ebay-er, look up HP IPAQ
Umm, yeah. My quarter century eggs are, ohhh...just about 3
weeks stale. I could go about explaining myself...but, i make n
excuses. And i'm now here doing part 2. I thought hard about this one.
Kind of thought too, that now that the birthday feel is over, this
entry would have lost its meaning. Ah well, it is not my intention to
conjure up some sort of 'feeling' or tug at heart strings anyway.

For this entry, i would actually like to talk about my family. Yes
yes yes...how will this one be different from the numerous others i've
blogged already. But i've said this once, and i will say it
again. If you want to get to know someone deeper, 2 things: visit their
room, and get to know their family. Better yet, visit the room / the
family unannounced. Know how it is that when visitors come over, the
things we put to do later, somehow find their priority immediately? Say
for example, you walk into a friend's room. Where is the mirror? How
large is the mirror? Are there pictures up on the wall? Any art, or
creative pieces? Is the bed made? What's on the bed? What books are
currently dog-earred? So on, so forth...

You know...bit of a tangent here.
I could blog about my family, but my heart is telling me otherwise.
People do only reflect on a quarter of a century once in their life.
So, save the family thoughts for next time.

This entry has been brooding for a long time. Here is it goes. Quarter
Century Eggs Part 2 will simply be to honor people, family, loved-ones,
friends, etc who have influenced my life...in big and small ways. It
shall be in no particular order of preference or 'percentage' (remember
in school how we'd say "hey, how many percent you like her-ah?").

I honor you.
names i have not mentioned in this honor list. No hard feelings...
You'll probably find i will come back to this list to keep adding to it
as names and faces come to mind. It's funny..certain people, i can
remember certain songs to go with their faces? Heh. Good songs are like
that. You remember them easily.
Friday, October 14, 2005

Quarter Century Eggs Part 1

It is my last weekend as a 24 year old. Alot has been running
through my mind and heart over this week. 25 years. Brunei has not even
been independent that long! I shall endevor to post a 3 part series
over this weekend.

I have actually thought about the saying "Life is not calculated by
the number of breaths you take. It is measured by the number of times
you lose your breath." or something to that effect. I skimmed through
my vault of memories...i have gone year by year, as far back as i can
remember, writing down things about that particular year. I have
recalled names and faces and songs and poems and heartaches and glories
and injuries and medals and etc etc etc.

25 years.

Thus far, in these few moments, i have (big
breathe in): bungee-jumped, nearly drowned probably anywhere between
5-10 times (All when i was about 10? They made
attempted-murders-of-young-boys legal by calling them "Swimming
Lessons"), never smoked, written about 15 songs, become an uncle, told
and heard gabillitrillifillion lame jokes (make that plus 1, after the
one LK told tonight), been an under-15 all round champion once,
accumilated about 10 medals + 10 trophies for various sports, jogged
12km once, never ridden a horse, nearly lost an eye (my brother one day
decided to hurl a pointed broom stick...at my face when i was 9? We
were playing...relax), thrown 1 beach party, made many many friends,
lost many many friends, dropped a phone in the toilet bowl once, never
been piss-drunk (yea, i am surprised too), never cross-dressed...in
public, never worn a g-string (surely some of you have wondered about
this), never done drugs, been in 3 major car accidents, sprained my
ankles too many times, never learnt another instrument, never gone for
singing classes, learnt how to make shepherd's pie, used the color red more
than any other, climbed trees, been stitched once, maxed at about 5
foot 11 inches, seen Titanic 7 times, been to many places overseas,
been rebuked for being sarcarstic, seen a few blue movies (what?), had
my nails manicured about 3 times, treated hundreds of patients, used
about $200,000 of my parents' hard earned cash (rough estimate
according to stats), never won any cash-prizes, had only 3 nose bleeds,
been a waiter once, never been in a real punch-out fight, been bullied
once by about 15 others, owned these game consoles: atari-nintendo-supernintendo-gameboy-sega-playstation-playstation 2,
broken many promises, tried to learn tennis once, never been a huge
reader, led many worship sessions, broken 5 hearts, represented Brunei
in basketball once, seen my dad cry 4 times (that i can remember),
cried with my brother many more times, been to casinos, missed many
buses, never been to a strip-club, told many lies, given my life to the
Lord, owned 3 Hawaian shirts, never had any part of my anatomy pierced,
been in 5 major balloon fights, never had sex.

Obviously i could go on and on and on, but this will be it for Part
1 of the trology. Yea, so i am a soon to be 25 year old virgin who has
never smoked, done drugs, been drunk or broken any bones. I also happen
to be a believer of a mighty God who has called me to a greater
purpose. Wait till you read my blog after another 25.

I need to share this. At work on Monday, i was having a milk and cookie snack. So i had my mug of cold milk in one hand, cookie in the other. For your info, these were the "40% extra choc chips" kind, so...not wanting to smudge my fingers in choc chip (go figure), i pinched the cookie between my finger tips....

The next few moments went by in a flash: the cookie slipped, there was a sudden 'ker-plunk' sound, my eyes shut on reflex. When i opened my eyes, there was milk everywhere! On the laptop, my glasses, face, shirt, over the table.

I laughed.

Sunday, October 09, 2005

Kairos Part 2

I stopped at The Not-So-Tall-Five. I start again here.

Elevators & The 'Carnival' from the South.
Sunday morning, our day started at 9 a.m. Kah Wai led, Dean preached, Pete's car needed CPR, i discovered a friend has trouble with open-window elevators, and for a few moments before the carnival, our meeting place was transformed into an aerobic class (those who were there earlier will know what i mean). I believe, in many ways, the build up thus far at Kairos was for that afternoon. For the Generations - the Lord had been maturing this truth in Kev for a long time, and that afternoon, he shared - and many will look back and remember Kairos for the lessons and message Kev gave on For the Generations. (Kev, do you remember last year at my bithday, what i shared and told you about Mike & Scottie? That was a moment i will look back to for a long time.) Others will remember what he shared on Revival from the South. Heh - i will also remember when Pete threw a card, about 15 metres, into a pail across the room.

MMM (most memorable moment): Chok's group at my 'booth' during the carnival. They had a funny way of doing the required number of push-ups, but there was something about the way they worked together that was different from other groups (by the way guys, it is on video...so we will screen it one day).

MHP (most heart provoking): having to share with everyone about having / asking for a personal revelation of God's heart. I am from a pretty old-school Anglican church, and i started out with music young. As such, i am comfortable in any musically inclined worship team setting...probably like how Christine C. is comfy with dance, or Gee with kids. But sharing in front of a crowd from the word is still new to me. It reminded me of how any gift or blessing takes practice.

Flickers & Tears.
The finale. Kairos ended on a surprisingly 'steady' note. There were no flashy lights, or believers running out to the altar. This was how it was to end - not on a 'high'. That evening, i sat right at the back observing, taking it in, praying. It was a time, i at times zoned out, thinking about how Kairos began*. (see below) There was food, worship, sharing, communion, candles, pictures, and oh...tears.

MMM: the candle exchange. It started with one, then two, then before you knew it, the whole room turned into a chorus of flickers. I did not get to speak with everyone i wanted to, but just observing, there were tears, laughter, candles that went out, hugs, more tears, frowns, many smiles, bonds deepened. Lives and hearts were forever changed that evening.

MHP: giving the glory back to the Lord. I found my flesh crying out for acknowledgement that evening. It is so humane isn't it? But God brought to mind a passage about when Jesus rode a donkey into Jerusalem (Luke 19). During Kairos, i was that donkey (please, no Shrek jokes).

I was asked a couple of times how we started planning and preparing for Kairos. Know how sometimes, movies have a 'Making of...' show? If we were to have one for Kairos, you'd have to go back to when each one attending was born. Then you'd have to interview every person we knew, then you'd have to come visit our mother countries to see how and where we grew up. Yup - and you'd still not get your answer. It really was a result of all the Lord had brought us through to date.
Sort of like asking someone "So, tell me about yourself...really. Tell me about yourself."

Yeah, sure. Got about a year of free time?

Saturday, October 08, 2005

Lord of the Rings.

I am going through a little phase. Been listening much to most of the Lord of the Rings soundtrack. I heard once on radio a joke about certain songs being the "Soundtrack to our lives". I think that is great - Lord of the Rings is like the "soundtrack of my life" to date. Some days i feel like Aragorn, then Boromir, then Eothain, then Eowyn, then Grima, then Gimli. Oddly enough, i have never identified myself with Legolas - he never seemed to get down and dirty or hurt during battle.

I spoked breifly to Ramone about having a Lord of the Rings Movie Marathon. Any other takers?

As i approach my quarter century celebration day, lots of other things cross my mind. Lots. (in case you're still thinking about LOTR, i am currently listening to The Black Gate is Closed) One thing that has crossed my mind, friendships. One things for sure, i have been blessed with friendships throughout my life. The Lord has brought many people my way.

This is the thought that has been nestling in my heart - how often do we give friendships enough time? How often do we get opportunities to? How often do we 'choose' our friends? Like, only being around the ones we click with? Afew names come to mind, and gosh, i am glad they're in my life. More than that, i only have few friends who are still in my life often enough, who i can sit with and talk about things like "hey,do you remember the time when..." and "wah...can't believe we used to 'look' like that!".

I have fewer friends who have i have stood the test of time with. As in, know how you currently only have known certain friends for a short time? 'Older' friends know more, have seen more, have matured with you, have hurt you, have corrected you, have been a shoulder to cry on. It is this i am talking about when i say 'older'.

This is my other little friend, and apple of my eye.
